Thesis Proposal

Below is the original proposal for the Hershey Hotel.  Clicking on the picture directs you to the PDF copy.  This proposal covers the three construction depths, two breadths, and research topic that I plan to further study.

Analysis I – Electrical Breadth

Analysis I looks at using a bus duct distribution system for the electrical power that the abandoned underground conduits distributed.  The breadth will focus on the potential long term savings from using the alternate system.  One possibility to investigate would be savings from reliability and a longer lifespan.  Underground duct banks can be exposed to mechanical damage during installation and are more prone to insulation degradation and thermal stress.  The breadth will compare the long term cost of operation of each of the systems, adding in the initial cost of material, installation, and shipping.

            Deliverables for Operating Cost Differences

  1. Calculations for operating costs between the systems.

  2. A recommendation either for or against the alternate system for the project.

Below is the revised proposal for the Hershey Hotel.  Clicking on the picture directs you to the PDF copy.  This proposal covers the three construction depths, two breadths, and research topic that I plan to further study.

Analysis II – Mechanical Breadth

Analysis II looks at using a packaged terminal air conditioner for the guestrooms instead of the variable refrigeration flow system that is being used on the project.  This breadth will focus on energy savings between the two systems during operation and then compare those quantities with the upfront unit costs, installation costs, and life span of the product. One possibility to look at is the difference between performance levels from different package terminal air conditioning unit manufacturers.  Purchasing a higher performing packaged unit may lower the initial cost savings but still provide the installation savings and may lower the difference in energy use to make it a viable option.

  1. Calculations for operating costs between the systems.

  2. A recommendation either for or against the alternate system for the project.

EVENT

My Hip Event, MM/DD/YY

Describe your event here and generate buzz. Where's it happening, and when does it start?

  • Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Neil Wysocki. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
